Case study

I built SyncUp with a friend during the three-month Swiss AI Challenge. It turns activity from games, music, film, anime, and online communities into one editable taste profile, then uses that signal to surface compatible people and recommendations. We wanted to make it easier to meet people through the things they actually spend time with, rather than a demographic questionnaire or dating-style profile.

What I did

I focused on the Next.js frontend. We designed SyncUp mobile-first because we expected most people to use it from their phone, then carried that same focused experience through to desktop. The first challenge was letting people bring in a lot of personal data without making setup feel like a chore, so I designed a five-step onboarding flow for languages, services, social links, manual obsessions, and a taste preview. The bottom navigation supports that approach: it feels natural to anyone used to mobile apps such as YouTube or Instagram, while still working on a larger display.

Inspiration from Duplicati

For the visual direction, I took inspiration from the color palette #F9FAFB #FFFFFF #E5E7EB #2563EB and distinctive icon style of Duplicati. Generous white space keeps the interface calm and easy to understand, while the icon style creates a recognizable visual identity.
